Your hands outstretched
You pulled me up and out
You stood so close
I felt your breath
There is no warmth in it
Your gaze so still
Piercing my heart so gently
What is amiss?
The fiery breath of life?
The uncertainty of purpose?
I reached out to touch
Your cold and steely face
You blinked for a second
Behind that unyielding gaze
I saw the dying embers
Of a fire once great
I held you close
To give you warmth
I whispered to stoke the embers
I felt you stir
You gave me hope
We embraced in a standstill
